Salesforce Commerce Cloud is seeking a Lead Software Engineer/Test Engineer to work inside of our product groups testing our cloud ecommerce platform. In this role you will work alongside our development teams and play a pivotal role in defining the test strategy for each production deliverable.  As a test engineer embedded into the development team, you will provide guidance to developers in building more robust unit tests to ensure we are driving quality inside the development effort.  You will be responsible for testing in parallel to development with the end goal of automating the tests for the feature or service.  You will then see that feature into production deployment and monitor real-time use.  Ideal candidates will come from a strong technical testing background and have the ability to understand highly complex architectures, define effective test strategies, and develop automated scripts that extend our automation frameworks and tools.  We are seeking candidates with experience automating at the API level, who feel comfortable working at any level of the tech stack (UI, Application, Database, Web).  Versatility is key in this position, candidates will be expected to frequently learn, adapt, test, and deploy new technologies to enable future capabilities of the Demandware platform.


  • Advocate for test priorities in the development process
  • Setup and maintain production-like test environments and provisioning code
  • Design, maintain and execute manual and automated test cases for functional, API, and end-to-end tests
  • Ensure comprehensive test coverage of unit tests (JUnit) and automated regression test suites
  • Debug complex issues found in customer environments
  • Perform code reviews in Java
  • Report and track defects, testing tasks, and release notes


  • 7+ years of experience as a Test Engineer
  • 5+ years of full lifecycle testing for web-based applications applications, from requirements gathering to deployment
  • Solid design and development skills in Java or a related language
  • Technical curiosity, and an analytical and structured approach to problem solving and testing
  • Strong root cause analysis skills
  • Proven experience planning, developing and collaborating on test automation frameworks and test suites
  • Experience creating QA tools and simulators to assist testing of large scale complex systems
  • Strong experience working with Continuous Integration systems
  • Solid knowledge of various QA methodologies incl. planning, exploratory testing, defect reporting and troubleshooting.
  • Strong familiarity with testing Java applications, including performing effective code reviews
  • Previous experience using JUnit or similar unit testing tools (TestNG, Mockito, Wiremock)
  • Ability to review complex software design specifications with a focus on testability, test automation and quality improvements
  • Passion for aligning quality goals to business goals
  • Proven success working collaboratively within cross-functional and intercultural teams based on strong team spirit, solid work ethic and good communication
  • MS or BS Computer Science or related degree


  • Experience with Agile development processes (Scrum, Kanban)
  • Experience with cloud providers (AWS) and automation
  • Experience in reliability, scalability and stress testing
  • Experience with technologies like Spring, Tomcat, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Docker, Vagrant
  • Experience with Linux/Unix, Ant, Maven, GIT, TCP, UDP, Web Services
