Lead Network Engineer

The Network Capacity Delivery team is a dynamic, global team delivering and supporting the Salesforce infrastructure to meet the substantial growth needs of the business. We are looking for passionate Network Engineers who are fascinated by the technologies behind the Internet and cloud computing. The team is essential to the deployment of a consistent and stable infrastructure that both meets network engineering design standards and product goals. Our team believes that automation is key to building a scalable global network.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance during deployment activities in the areas of facility power, cooling, rack layout and cable management. Make and/or recommend strategic and tactical changes to existing physical infrastructure.
  • You will be experienced in large scale data center builds with a strong motivation for automation. Create simple, repetitive deployment processes that increase both velocity and quality. Work closely with our automation teams in defining the tools that allow us to scale at unprecedented volume.
  • Work cross functionally with Project Management, Infrastructure Delivery, Infrastructure Planning Design Operations and Network Engineering teams to generate Method of Procedure (MOP), Budget Requests and Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Perform capacity planning activities to ensure we scale our network ahead of customer demand.
  • Drive standards across the network and ensure that we are fully compliant with those standards and policies.
  • 10% to 30% of travel required

Required Skills/Experience
  • Minimum of 6 years of IP networking experience with designing, deploying and supporting large-scale service provider, data center, and/or enterprise network infrastructure
  • Competence in configuring and troubleshooting IP routing/switching technologies and protocols including TCP/IP, BGP, ISIS and OSPF in a dual-stack IPv4/6 environment
  • Solid understanding of data center design and operational best practices. Experience with field-based work in Collocation Facilities, Internet Exchanges, or Central Offices a plus
  • Strong familiarity with Linux OS/networking. Scripting experience with Python, Perl, and/or consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Network certifications such as CCNP or JNCIP preferred, Expert level certifications a plus
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of revision control software (ex. Perforce, SVN, Git, etc.) and development lifecycle.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skill with experience presenting highly conceptual designs to executives, mid-level management's, and peer engineers.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
